Women more likely than men to give to charities

15/07/08

Charities hoping to boost their fundraising efforts should look to women to provide the donations.

That is the finding of new research undertaken by the Newspaper Society which found that whilst just 51 per cent of men support charities or good causes, 62 per cent of women are donors.

Although men do not give to charity as often as women, they are 14 per cent more likely than their female counterparts to spend time helping their local communities.

Location also has an influencing factor on donations.

According to the survey, those in the north east and the borders were least likely to give their support with just 52 per cent of those questioned admitting to giving to charities.

People in Scotland, the west country, the south-east and the midlands were the most generous and were all equally likely to give to charity, with 59 per cent of them saying they would donate.
