We Are The World charity fundraising single set to be released online12/02/10 Written by Isabel Griffith. A charity fundraising single set to benefit the victims of the Haiti earthquake will be released online today (February 12th), it has been reported. The rendition of Michael Jackson's We Are The World features scores of famous musicians and performers, including Pink, Celine Dion, LL Cool J, Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Enrique Iglesias and Barbara Streisand. Debuting during the opening coverage of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver today, the song will harness the power of technology to improve charity fundraising for those hit by the seven-magnitude quake and will be made available to download immediately after the ceremony. Produced by Rickey Minor, Quincy Jones and Wyclef Jean, the charity fundraising initiative was organised by Lionel Richie, who penned the song with Jackson in 1985. Richie commented: 'What an unbelievable group of people who have come together to give their voices for a cause to start the healing of a people who have experienced a devastation of such magnitude. 'We believe We Are The World - 25 for Haiti can be the start of the healing process.' The original charity fundraising single raised $63 million (£40 million) for 18 countries in Africa through the sale of seven million units. This news item is © CTT Copyright
