Scope could break record in third sector fundraising scheme25/01/10 Written by Isabel Griffith. A UK non-profit has used technology to boost its charity fundraising. Cerebral palsy organisation Scope reports it may have broken a record for the largest number of mobile phones recycled in a week. Although it is yet to receive confirmation from a Guinness assessment team that it gathered more than 952 phones in the week commencing January 8th, the organisation believes the initiative has improved its charity fundraising. Recycling partner Redeem is to donate £3 to Scope for each headset it collects from donors in the UK. Commenting on the not for profit fundraising initiative, Redeem chief executive Jamie Rae said: 'With approximately four million people predicted to have upgraded phones this year, this is a great way to dispose of your old ones.' There are around 90 million old mobile phones not in use across the UK, Scope reported at the launch of the charity fundraising scheme. Some 75 per cent of the population is unaware of how to recycle a mobile phone, a survey by Nokia recently found. This news item is © CTT Copyright
