Cancer Research fundraiser turns to modern technology

A Derbyshire charity worker is harnessing the power of the internet to boost fundraising potential.

Pam McCane-Whitney has listed various donated items for purchase online and has already raised £500 for Cancer Research UK, the Derby Evening Telegraph reports.

Speaking to the newspaper, the charity fundraising queen stated that online sales are easier than running a charity shop: 'If you run a charity shop, you have all the overheads associated with it and a limited number of people who will travel to see what you have in stock.

'But online we are more likely to get a reasonable price, because you can put in a starting bid and go from there and people know they are bidding for charity.'

Mrs McCane-Whitney added that she recently sold a metal detector online for£100, while she hopes an antique silver buckle will bring in a good sum.

In related news, a number of copies of rock magazine Rolling Stone that are signed by famous musicians will be sold online in a charity fundraising effort.

Issues autographed by the likes of Eminem, Jay-Z, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Paul Simon and Bon Jovi are currently being auctioned off on eBay to generate money for MusiCares and the Grammy Foundation.
