Online auctions boost charity fundraising for Great Ormond Street Hospital

29/06/09

An online auction of celebrity items will generate funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, it has been reported.

Starcards.org is offering donors a selection of autographed photographs, playing cards and other celebrity items in support of the children's charity.

In a move that could also boost the organisation's communications, Starcards is currently selling a unique set of signed, framed playing cards that profile famous Formula One racing drivers.

Also on the auction block is a jacket autographed by nine former tennis world number ones and a Nike shoe signed by Serena Williams.

The auction also includes an image of Harry Potter stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, courtesy of Empire Magazine.

Great Ormond Street Hospital treats around 150,000 children every year suffering from rare and often life-threatening conditions.

The initiative illustrates the potential of online auctions as a boost to charity fundraising.
