New 'online mall' website set to boost charity fundraising29/10/09 Written by Isabel Griffith. A US charity has launched a new website that could revolutionise the internet's role in charity fundraising. CharityCare has launched Beluwa.org, a site that uses e-commerce to boost fundraising for a number of non-profit organisations. Functioning as an online shopping mall, the site allows charities to sell donated items online, letting users to browse a list a products that will benefit fundraising for the organisations. Tighe Merelli, CharityCare chief executive, commented: 'We are excited to go live after almost a year of development. 'We believe that this concept can help many charities achieve their fundraising goals through a method previously unavailable to them.' The organisation reports that it takes a quarter of the profits of items sold via the website to cover costs, while the remaining 75 per cent goes to the charitable group in question. Breast cancer charity Susan G Komen for the Cure and the Andy Roddick Foundation have already signed up to the charity fundraising initiative. Susan G Komen for the Cure is the world's largest breast cancer organisation and the largest source of non-profit funds dedicated to the fight against the disease. This news item is © CTT Copyright
