Million pound legacy

03/10/08

A woman has left £1.2 million to Christian Aid in her will, local paper the Evening Telegraph reports.

Kathleen Mary Ball began work at Weetabix at 16 and had been a member of Wellingborough United Reformed Church for many years.

She had been an active supported of Christian Aid since 1987. The charity explained that legacy donations like Ms Ball's were very important to them.

Christian Aid explained that legacy donations accounted for around ten per cent of the charity's total income

Colin Kemp, Christian Aid legacy manager, explained: 'Christian Aid depends on legacies.

'They help to provide much-needed support to some of the world's poorest people by allowing us to respond to emergencies and provide training and tools that will allow communities to become self sufficient.'

The charity will be holding its Will Aid campaign next month which raised £90,000 last year.

As an international development charity, Christian Aid works with disadvantaged communities in 50 countries.
