Jane's Appeal charity fundraising target smashed27/02/09 A small not-for-profit organisation has been successful in reaching its charity fundraising goal. Jane's Appeal has smashed its £2 million target set by founder Jane Tomlinson, who had terminal cancer and raised funds for children's and cancer charities by undertaking various physical challenges. The charity announced that it had been successful in raising £2.6 million and had set a new charity fundraising target of £5 million. Ms Tomlinson's husband, Mike, was quoted on Reuters as saying that his wife's story had obviously appealed to 'a huge number of people as opposed to a few main benefactors'. Commenting on the donations, he told Reuters news agency: 'All this money has come from hundreds of very small individual donations. I think that touches more than anything else.' Despite being diagnosed with terminal breast cancer, Ms Tomlinson succeeded in completing the London Marathon three times, the New York Marathon and three London Triathlons, among other races, in her bid to raise money for charity.
