Great North Run charity fundraiser15/10/08 While 52,000 runners took part in this year's Great North Run, the Ashbourne News Telegraph reported on a landlady and her step-daughter who together raised over £400 for their chosen charities running in the event. The pair ran for the Alzheimer's Society and the Marie Curie Cancer Care charity. Suzanne Harrison completed the gruelling half-marathon in just two hours and six minutes. Commenting on her reasons for supporting the Alzheimer's Society, Mrs Harrison said: ''I ran for the Alzheimer's Society because my gran has the disease and the charity does so much good for sufferers and their families.' The Alzheimer's Society has 25,000 members, many of whom have personal experience of dementia. Marie Curie Cancer Care is one of the UK's largest charities and employs over 2,700 nurses, doctors and healthcare professionals.
