Gately named charity takes donations online16/10/09 Written by Isabel Griffith. Technology has helped a children's charity raise thousands of pounds as fans of the late Boyzone singer Stephen Gately donate. According to Herald.ie, many people got in contact with Caudwell Children after the pop star's husband Andrew Cowles named it as the charity of choice for fan donations, with one donor pledging £1,000. Gately was a goodwill ambassador and staunch supporter of the organisation, which provides funds for children's special medical requirements and supports the NSPCC's Full Stop campaign to end cruelty to children. A spokeswoman for the organisation told the newspaper: 'Since the announcement, we have received so many phone calls from people asking about donations. It's amazing. 'We can't thank Andrew and his family enough.' The Boyzone star attended a number of Caudwell Children's charity fundraising events and once auctioned a private performance in aid of the group. Donations are being taken via online charity fundraising platform JustGiving and so far total £20,000. Caudwell Children has spent more than £1.2 million on treatments and therapies for autistic children since it was established in 2000. This news item is © CTT Copyright
