Gamers use technology to boost charity fundraising for Child's Play26/11/09 Written by Isabel Griffith. An American comedy group is using technology to boost its charity fundraising efforts. LoadingReadyRun, made up of four comedians, is running an internet telethon in order to generate cash for children's charity Child's Play. The group has so far raised in excess of $100,000 (£60,500) by receiving donations to play the 'boring and mind numbing' computer simulation game Bus Driver. Now in its third year, the charity fundraising initiative raised $22,000 in 2007 and $70,000 in 2008. The game consists of a repetitive simulation of a bus driving through the desert which the player is forced to re-start if the vehicle drives off the road. Explaining the charity fundraising drive, the LoadingReadyRun website states: 'It's really boring and mind numbing and generally unpleasant. We play 24 hours a day until you stop donating.' Donors can follow the progress of the team via live webcam or on social networking website Twitter, celebrities also make guest appearances and prizes are given away. Funds raised by the group go straight into an online Paypal account that is passed directly to Child's Play. The charity was set up in 2003 in order to supply toys and computer games to children in 60 hospitals worldwide. This news item is © CTT Copyright
