Fundraising target reached ahead of schedule

11/08/08

A fundraising target of £1 million has been achieved for the charity Help the Hospices two months ahead of schedule.

The money was raised by the accountancy firm KPMG through a series of initiatives such as payroll donations and a charity trek to Sri Lanka.

The firm's 22 offices raised £500,000 on a local level for hospices through events such as raffles and cake sales, with staff contributing 38,000 hours of time over two years.

Mike Kelly, head of corporate social responsibility at KPMG, said: 'A collective effort and united attitude has ensured our success from the outset.

'Our people have worked very hard and committed many hours of time to a cause we truly believe in.'

The company also matched the £70,000 donated during the Times' Christmas appeal and arranged a system where money is automatically donated to charity during corporate business transactions.

Staff at KPMG voted in 2007 to extend their partnership with Help the Hospices for a further two years.
