Charity website Third Sector conducted research with Birdsong Consulting and discovered that nearly two thirds of respondents are working longer than they are contracted to and only 65 per cent are happy with their work/life balance. Frances Hurst, founder of Birdsong, said there is more pressure on fundraisers to hit targets which is having an impact on staff. Retaining staff is, according to Hurst, a problem because "there is a loss of knowledge and expertise when people leave, and a significant cost".
