Facebook offers clients charity fundraising tokens30/12/09 Written by Matthew Carter. Social networking website Facebook has improved charity fundraising by giving donation tokens to its most valued advertisers. According to Softpedia, the company's biggest clients were given a 19-square-inch poster and a $75 (£47) wooden token to be spent on DonorsChoose, an online charity fundraising portal that allows users to support classrooms in need, or Kiva, a scheme that provides loans to alleviate poverty. Some 4,000 companies have been given the chance to give the money to a cause of their choice instead of the social network hosting a Christmas party. DonorsChoose works by allowing public school teachers in America to request funding for classroom projects of all types. Potential donors can then browse all active projects to find the one they believe to be most worthwhile. Individuals giving more than $100 will also receive handwritten thank-you letters from pupils. Kiva is the world's first person-to-person micro-lending website, allowing supporters to find an entrepreneur to give a loan to. This news item is © CTT Copyright
