Designer carrier bags may help supermarket raise thousands for cancer charity

17/06/08

A leading supermarket has partnered with a cancer charity in the hope that sales of a designer shopping bag will raise thousands of pounds for the care of terminally ill patients.

Tesco's has got together with popular designer, Cath Kidson, to create a range of collectable, limited-edition, re-usable shopping bags.

Marie Curie Cancer Care will be the beneficiary of the campaign and Tesco believe they will raise at least £250,000 to fund 12,500 hours of home nursing care for terminally ill patients and their families.

The bags will cost £3.50 and 50p of each sale will go to Marie Curie.  Customers will be able to buy the 'multi-floral fashion' print and a 'classic blue spot' print bag from early July, but they will only be available in larger stores.

A further four designs will be available in store in the following six months.

Nominated as Tesco's Charity of the Year in February, the supermarket has pledged to raise £2.5 million for Marie Curie Cancer Care by the end of this year.
