Cancer Research UK launches donations website to improve charity fundraising18/09/09 Written by Sally O'Connell. Employees at Barclaycard have been the first to use new technology that could improve charity fundraising. Some 150 workers at the company attended an event at the Oxo Tower in London that saw contactless charity donation points used to allow people to give money to Family Action, Help a London Child and Training 4 Life. Individuals attending the event were given special edition contactless-enabled cards preloaded with £5 of credit that could be given to their choice of the three charities. Commenting on the charity technology initiative, Barclaycard business development director Stewart Roberts said: 'This is a further example of how contactless technology can be used in the future to enable people to make charitable donations, via their contactless payment cards in a quick and easy manner ,without having to scramble around for loose cash.' Mr Roberts added that the new cards could be used in traditional retail environments, as well as to boost charity fundraising. One in five credit cards issued in UK was issued by Barclaycard, its website states. This news item is © CTT Copyright
