Computer Aid calls for technology donations to boost third sector fundraising02/02/10 Written by Sally O'Connell. A charitable organisation is calling for individuals to donate unwanted technology in order to improve its charity fundraising. Computer Aid is appealing to donors to hand old technology over to the charity so it can ship it to countries where it is drastically needed, the Inquirer reports. The initiative could see hundreds of unwanted gadgets given to school children in Africa, a fact that highlights the importance of technology to charity fundraising in the 21st century. Computer Aid also recycles unusable donations, making it environmentally friendly. The charity comments: 'Just £50 enables Computer Aid to put a PC onto a school desk in Africa, which can give 50 children the opportunity to reach a vocational level of IT literacy.' It has so far provided 150,000 PCs to disadvantaged communities in 100 countries across Africa and South America. The charity also uses online auction website Ebay to sell many of its donated gadgets, further boosting its charity fundraising. This news item is © CTT Copyright
