Company uses text messages to boost SA AIDS charity fundraising drive02/03/10 Written by Sally O'Connell. Telemedia company Oxygen8 has pledged to raise £40,000 to help supporting an HIV/AIDS project in South Africa. Project O will see a number of charity fundraising events take place between April and July 2010, including skydiving, marathon runs, helicopter rides and abseiling. The company will use its micro-billing and mobile technology platform to promote the scheme and will also take donations via mobile phones. Oxygen8 group chief executive Shane Leahy said the firm is looking for other corporate entities to get involved in the charity fundraising activities and promote Project O. 'Mobile is the fastest communication channel in the UK, with eight billion text messages sent every month and 1.5 billion page impressions on the mobile internet. Mobile giving is easy to use and it can be either planned or spontaneous,'Mr Leahy said. He added that charities can also engage with under-represented donor groups such as 16-to-24-year-olds through mobile fundraising. There are three million orphans who need support in South Africa, the Project O website states. This news item is © CTT Copyright
