Coldplay raises £250k for children's charity through online not-for-profit fundraising04/01/10 A British band has used technology to boost charity fundraising for a London-based organisation. Rock band Coldplay have generated more than £250,000 for Kids Company by selling musical instruments and memorabilia via online auctioning website eBay. Its End of Decade Clearance Sale included a guitar played by band member Jonny Buckland, which sold for £15,000, as well as a keyboard played by singer Chris Martin and costumes worn by the group during their Viva La Vida tour. The auction ended on December 31st and raised a total of £251,482 for the charity, which supports vulnerable young people living in inner city areas. The band website stated: 'It's fair to say that the band are just as excited, grateful and amazed by the enormous total as Kids Company are. ' A huge thanks to everyone who bid and helped make the clearout sale such a success.' Kids Company was founded in 1996 and currently supports around 14,000 young people with terminal illnesses.
