Charities using the internet to provide greetings cards are proving popular15/12/09 Written by Sally O'Connell. A growing number of charities are seeking to offer online greetings cards this Christmas in an effort to cash in on the trend to be more environmentally-conscious. Climate change is high on the agenda this year as Christmas approaches, with the conference in Copenhagen over the past week leading the news around the world. As a result, many people are becoming more aware of the amount of rubbish they create over the festive period and are choosing not to add to it by sending large numbers of Christmas cards to friends and family. However, this has often been a strong source of revenue for charities, but the South Wales Echo reports they are now looking to use technology to keep the money coming in. According to the newspaper, one entrepreneur who has started her own e-cards business has raised over £10,000 for 25 charities thanks to the popularity of the scheme. UK prime minister Gordon Brown has headed out to the climate change conference in Copenhagen in order to broker a deal between the nations that could help significantly cut carbon emissions in the future.
