Charities target cashpoint users

16/07/08

Charities are adopting a new system that will enable them to show videos on cash machines and contact new donors who register their interest.

The system created by advertising specialists, i-design, will enable charities to print a text number on customer receipts so people can register their interest by text message.

The Multiple Sclerosis Society ran a similar campaign earlier this year to help promote MS Awareness Week.

The machines screened adverts featuring testimonials from people who have overcome the challenges of MS by using the resources available to them and encouraged donors to visit the Multiple Sclerosis Society website or ring their hotline.

Matthew Trainer, head of communications at the MS Society, said it may use the text function in its next ATM advertising campaign.

Mr Trainer said it is a tough environment for fundraisers and they are doing everything possible to engage with the public and spread their message.

'It is increasingly difficult to get people's attention, but at cash machines people are entirely focused on the screen,' he said.

ATMs have previously played videos by charities or companies like T-Mobile while they are verifying card details or counting money.
