Baring all for charity

17/07/08

Several breast cancer charities have rebuffed a glamour model's fundraising efforts after she made the headlines as Ireland's first topless model.

Claire Tully is a biochemistry and immunology graduate at Trinity College, Ireland, as well as being a  3 girl, and was snubbed by the Marie Keating Foundation and Breast Cancer Ireland, the Belfast Telegraph reported.

Ms Tully was planning to raise the funds by appearing on RTE's charity show Failte Towers.

After her initial rejection she managed to get support from the National Breast Cancer Research Institute at NUI Galway.

Another unusual charity fundraising event that is taking place this September is WaterAid's Sing for Water, thirdsector.co.uk reported.

The event involves over 1,000 people singing in choirs for the Mayor's Thames Festival and the organisers are hoping to raise around £50,000 for the charity.

Technology has been employed by one innovative charity. The Caldecott Foundation has turned a drawing of one its beneficiaries into a web mosaic.

Tiles are then being sold at £10 and those that donate with have their image - if they are an individual - or their company logo appear when visitors hover their cursor over the bought tile.
