Air ambulance SMS charity fundraising18/12/08 An air ambulance charity will be launching a scheme that allows people to donate money via text. Hosted by Oxygen8 Communications, the system will allow donors to send an SMS message to a short code that will generate a donation. Donors will be charged £1.50 per text, 90p of which will be donated to London's Air Ambulance. The charity fundraising system has been set up to raise cash for Helicopter Emergency Medical Services. Commenting on the scheme, London's Air Ambulance chief executive, Andrew Cameron, said: 'We hope that the new text-to-donate service will provide another method in which people can easily and quickly donate a small but important amount of money to London's Air Ambulance.' He explained that this was the first time the charity had used an interactive donation service so were looking for a communications provider that could offer 'high levels of support and guidance'. London's Air Ambulance is a charity set up in response to a report by the Royal College of Surgeons that criticised the care of trauma patients who were forced to wait before they could be treated.
