RSPCA viral charity communications

09/12/08

The RSPCA is at the forefront of original marketing charity communications and the charity's latest viral campaign is no exception.

Put together by the animator responsible for Simon's Cat, Simon's Sister's Dog is a new cartoon that consumers can view at giveanimalsavoice.org.uk.

Although the animation is humorous, the charity communications is intended to have a serious message behind it and aims to show pet owners what will happen if they feed their pets too much.

The charity explained that Simon Todfield's creation makes a serious point of pet obesity which it says affects one in three of the UK's pets.

Pets Get Slim vet, Joe Inglis, is quoted on the RSPCA website as saying: 'We tend to give the least healthy bits from our meals, such as fatty bits of meat, and these go straight from your plate onto your pet's hips.'

The RSPCA receives no lottery or state aid and according to the charity, its £82 million yearly running costs are funded by voluntary donations as well as legacies.
