Experts advise search engine optimisation important for websites

04/08/08

Charities that are hoping to make the most of their online presence and improve their ranking in search engines have been advised to keep an eye on their keywords.

Graham Charlton, researcher for e-consultancy, explained that any company - such as a charity - who is trying to get the right kind of customer or supporter to their website needs to optimise their site for their key phrases.

Mr Charlton explained: 'Essentially what you're doing is targeting keyword searches so what you're looking to do is optimise those keywords.'

Those companies who are just starting out should get an expert to look at their site to ensure they are getting the most from their website

Some companies pay to get to the top of results as well as increasing their 'natural' search listings.

One online retailer who has recently got together with a charity is Amazon who announced on Friday (August 1st) that it will be selling a collector's edition of JK Rowling's The Tales of Beedle the Bard.

Proceeds from sales of the books will be donated to the charity, the Children's High Level Group which was founded by the author in 2005 along with Emma Nicholson MEP.
