The money, donated by the e-Learning Foundation, is part of its annual Autumn Grant Round and will be given to schools to help fund e-learning projects. Hoping to achieve 'equity of access, home access and sustainability of funding through parental involvement' the charity is making requests for grant funding. Valerie Thompson, chief executive of the e-Learning Foundation, said: 'Priority will be given to schools serving disadvantaged children in urban and rural areas, especially new projects who require kick start funding.' Children only spend 15 per cent of their lives at school and the charity argue that this means that home access to technology plays a vital role in the success of any IT project. According to IT website PublicTechnology.net, there is a growing preference for portable technologies within schools, but less than 20 per cent of schools loan computers for home use.
