Consumers given advice on how to give to charity

05/08/08

Although the credit crunch is forcing consumers to consider ways they can conserve cash, an industry expert has told people how they can contribute to charity by using everyday services.

Michelle Slade at Moneyfacts.co.uk pointed consumers towards charity savings accounts where the bank makes a donation to charity which she says is 'typically around one per cent of the balance of [an] account'.

Ms Slade also mentions charity credit cards where she says a donation of up to £25 is made when a card is issued initially.

Charities could benefit further from these schemes as with some cards there is a further donation once a person has had the card for six months.

Those that are interested in bringing charities and technology together will be pleased to hear that Everyclick, the online search engine which donates half of its revenues to charity, has just announced a new service.

Anyone that wants to will be able to visit their website and run online appeals, in addition to allowing supporters to set up individual fundraising pages.
