The campaign will feature talking pets that read news headlines or copy what their owner says, reports the website Brand Republic. These 'virtual pets' have been created by using text-to-speech technology and are expected to advertise the charity's new social networking site for animal lovers. Users will be able to create their own pets by choosing from a selection of virtual cats and dogs or by uploading a picture of their own treasured pooch. The tool has been developed by avatar specialists Oddcast and allows the virtual pets to be customised with animated backgrounds and accessories. Users will then be able to type a message that will appear to being coming from their pet or choose a pre-recorded message to allocate. 'This viral campaign is fun, entertaining and a perfect way to reach pet owners who will enjoy being part of our new online community,' Debbie Curtis, head of communication at The Blue Cross, told the website. Online adverts are expected to run on MySpace and MSN over four weeks to promote the viral before it is officially launched next month.
