Charity announces new "ideas lab"13/06/08 As charities struggle to find ways to be creative in an increasingly competitive environment, Comic Relief has announced the introduction of a new communications department. The so-called 'in-house ideas lab' will cover all areas of communication including traditional media such as broadcast and print in addition to newer technologies such as digital and experience-based communications. Chris Ward, founder of marketing agencies Beatwax and Firstmovies, will head the unit and has said he believes it will create a forum to 'mass-market ideas'. Currently working on branding for next year's Red Nose Day and mental health campaigns White Ribbon Alliance and Moving People Forward, the department is already busy. There will be a one-off Comic Relief episode of hit tv show Gavin and Stacey this Christmas as the charity's fundraising efforts. Annie Lennox was the last celebrity to use her name to help boost profits for the charity. Her SING album featuring 23 major female artists, including Madonna, Dido, Pink and Shakira aims to raise awareness of the impact of HIV/Aids in South Africa.
