Guardian Films has proposed using charities' contacts to make films highlighting the plight of people in crisis-hit areas such as Somalia and Darfur.

Christian Aid, Unicef, War on Want and Global Witness are just some of the charities that have been approached to take part.

Talking about the potential benefits of the project, Paul Collins, press officer at War on Want, said: "Africa is covered more on travel programmes now than in the news, so if this offers a real chance to increase coverage of the issues, it's a good thing."
