Macmillan nears £3.8 million charity fundraising target10/03/09 Macmillan Cancer Support has announced that it is 'on the home stretch' towards a £3.8 million target for a new cancer care centre in Perth, Scotland. The charity is raising the funds towards the construction of a Cornhill Macmillan Centre for in-patient and day-care at Perth Royal Infirmary. With around £3 million already raised since 2007, the target has now been given a boost from Norwich Union staff who donated £31,298. Neil Kennedy, Macmillan's local fundraising manager, welcomed the company's support and told the Press and Journal that 'we're on the home stretch and have around half-a-million to go'. We allowed three years for the project and that's not far off 18 months. It's a tribute to the people of Perth and Kinross and everyone who has supported the appeal,' he explained. 'Norwich Union has been a fantastic help to us not only in terms of donations but also in manpower.' Supermarket chain Tesco recently announced that it will back the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign as its main charity fundraising cause for 2009.
