Health group uses internet to promote anti-smoking charity campaign11/11/09 Written by Matthew Carter. A health non-profit is using the internet to order to improve its charity campaigning, it has been reported. The Deborah Hutton campaign is geared towards putting young people off smoking and uses new technologies to spread the word. It has developed a social networking presence and is also running an online film competition with help from marketing agency Ice. Cut Films encourages young people to record a short film and upload it to an interactive microsite run by the charity, allowing it to be shared online across networks such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Jayne Hampson, senior social marketing practitioner for ICE, told The Drum: 'The rapid growth of social networking sites illustrates how young people's interest in interactive technologies has never been higher, and this is an ideal opportunity to harness this trend for social good.' The campaign's film competition is being piloted at a number of schools in Suffolk, Leicester, London and Liverpool, with a view to taking it national in 2010. It is named after fashion journalist Deborah Hutton, who campaigned against smoking among young people before losing her life to lung cancer. This news item is © CTT Copyright
