E-government awards to acknowledge charity campaigning and public services08/09/09 Written by Matthew Carter. Organisations that use technology to improve charity campaigning and public sector efficiency could nominate themselves for a government award. Nominations for the e-government national awards 2009 are being taken until October 1st for all bodies involved in providing public sector services. The ceremony will take place in January and will see organisations acknowledged for their work in 11 categories including building a fairer society with e-government services and innovation in strategy. John Suffolk, the government's chief information officer, said: 'The variety and richness of ways that public servants and their private sector counterparts use technology to improve our public services and the lives of our citizens is truly outstanding. 'I encourage all teams to nominate their projects so that we celebrate our successes and, more importantly, continue to learn from the very best examples.' Prime minister Gordon Brown spoke at the 2008 awards ceremony via video link-up, highlighting the importance of effective charity campaigning and public services during the recession. The awards are supported by the government chief information officer (Cabinet Office), the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives and the Society of IT Management.
