Dive into online charity campaigning, urges expert

01/07/09

The future of charity campaigning could lie on the internet, it has been suggested.

According to a recent survey by Leapanywhere.com, 66 per cent of Brits cross the road in order to avoid charity workers, while almost half (47 per cent) lie about having money to donate.

It is no surprise, then, that many organisations are turning to the internet in order to boost their charity campaigning capabilities.

Third sector advisor Steve Bridger told the Independent that despite the wide-ranging, sometimes overwhelming possibilities, charities chiefs should shift their focus onto online campaigns.

Mr Bridger added that many charities are now signed up to social networking site Twitter, but few have truly committed to it as a campaigning strategy.

'They should stop waiting for things to be perfect and just embrace the messiness of the web. They have no choice but to change their mind-set,' Mr Bridger told the publication.

Meanwhile, a new charity campaigning website is aiming to get users to 'have a good time doing good'.

Leap Anywhere aggregates charitable events in the user's local area and promotes charitable giving through the use of new technology.
