Charity signs million pound record contract

08/10/08

A charity has signed a £1 million contract with Universal Music to record an album, the Press Association reports.

The International Staff Band (ISB), who are members of the Salvation Army, have decided to record the album as the charity is said to be concerned about the credit crunch and its effect on not-for-profit organisations.

Commenting on the signing, Universal said that they were 'delighted' to be working with 'the world's ultimate buskers'.

Dr Stephen Cobb, director of the Salvation Army's music ministries unit and ISB conductor comma said: 'Some of the music was a little different to our usual repertoire, but very enjoyable to play. It was a real pleasure for us to work with the Universal team and to produce what we believe will be an album that will inspire listeners.'

In addition to secular and religious tracks, there are also songs such as Nessun Dorma and You Raise Me Up among others.

The Salvation Army has said that it hopes the project will help boost its Christmas fundraising efforts.
