Connect, a disability charity that helps people suffering from aphasia, is planning to appoint a director of fundraising. Historically, Connect has had to rely on funds from external trusts and foundations, such as the Dunhill Medical Trust, but these donations are declining, as they were intended to help the charity establish itself and it has now been running for eight years. The charity website, Third Sector, quoted Phyllis Campbell-McRae, chief executive of Connect, as saying: 'The plan is to make the charity sustainable. We want to get funds from different sources.' A director should have been appointed by August and they will be required to recruit 'a corporate fundraiser and a trust and foundation fundraiser' Aphasia is a loss of the ability to produce and/or comprehend language, due to injury of the brain areas that perform those functions.
