Video Training Workshops

Workshop 1 – Pre-production

Contents:

• Generating ideas
• Understanding your audience
• Funding sources
• Choosing the right style, format and length for your film
• Developing your ideas
• Researching your subject
• Legal issues which may affect your project
• Preparing a pre-production checklist
• Storyboarding

By the end of this one-day workshop, participants will have a thorough understanding of the planning and development required for a film project.  Participants will be encouraged to bring along their own ideas for real projects, which will be developed and evaluated through practical exercises during the day.

Workshop 2 – Production

Contents:

• Planning your shoot
• Legal requirements
• Choosing locations
• Preparing participants
• Using equipment
• Scheduling your filming days
• Preparing a shoot checklist
• Reviewing the ‘rushes’

This workshop will give participants the tools and knowledge they need to plan and perform the production stage of their project effectively.  Practical exercises will ensure the participants are comfortable with using equipment and confident about shooting their films.  As in Workshop 1, participants will be encouraged to use and develop their own film project ideas throughout the workshop.

Workshop 3 – Post-production

Contents:

• Editing
• Using music, titles, credits, effects
• Legal requirements
• Rendering your film
• What next? – how to distribute your film
• Burning to DVD, including creating menus
• Uploading to the internet
• Practical tips for getting your film viewed

Workshop 3 will use practical exercises to show participants how to refine their raw footage into a cohesive and engaging film.  Once again, participants will be encouraged to bring along and work with their own material.  This workshop will also include sessions on sharing and distributing films to a target audience, through DVDs and the internet.

All three workshops will include ‘surgery’ sessions, where participants will have an opportunity to discuss their own project ideas and material.
