New study will examine why people leave money to charities07/05/08 A new study is to be launched which will aim to discover why people leave money to charities in their wills. The survey has been commissioned by Remember a Charity and the results are expected by July this year, Third Sector reports. It will be carried out by TNS and the market research company will be aiming to investigate why some people don't understand how to make a donation via their will.

The survey will also look into people's perception of charities, as well as the behaviour of families. Iain McAndrew, head of TNS, is hoping that the end results will prove useful for Remember a Charity and help to increase donations to various worthy causes. He commented: 'Legacies have been a much overlooked revenue for charity.' The organisation is using a sum of over £900,000 left to it by two sisters as a means to fund the research. The findings will help it to formulate a new approach to its marketing campaigns and move away from "awareness-raising activities towards tactics designed to change people's behaviour", Third Sector noted.
